Spain, Day 9. Grazalema

The Pickwell holiday jinx struck again today: we awoke to cloudy skies and hill fog. Hoping that the sky would clear, we decided to wander down into the main square for a tostada breakfast with the locals and to buy some rolls for lunch.

Packup made, we set off to the very top end of the town and very steeply up into the mountains. The walk turned out to be either fiercely up or down with very little flat but amazingly dramatic. It was very wild, rugged country and an excellent walk. Sadly the weather wasn't on our side with low cloud and rain. Very much on the plus side, though, were the wonderful flowers including eight species of orchid and good numbers of birds. The yellow bee orchids and southern early purples were especially numerous, carpeting the ground in some places. Despite the weather this was an excellent day.
