Lake District, October 2019. Day 1.

Happy anniversary to us.  39 years ago today, a beautiful autumn day, unlike today when we are warm and cosy in the caravan but looking out at pouring rain.  Still, a celebratory meal at the excellent Wild Boar this evening to look forward to.
We had a good journey yesterday arriving in perfect weather despite travelling through heavy rain.  We were soon settled in with a cup of tea and before long our good friends Nigel and Jackie arrived for an evening meal.  They have been here for the last week but leave tomorrow and were congratulating themselves on getting their awning down dry.
We woke this morning to clear skies and our first frost of the winter.  It soon clouded over, however, and rain now looks set in for the rest of the day with weather warnings issued by the met office.  We did manage to get out for a walk in Ratherheath Woods which adjoin the site.  We didn't completely avoid the rain, however the autumn colours are magnificent and even more intense in the wet.  We have now settled in with books for the afternoon and look forward to the evening's celebration with our son Thomas who is staying with us for the weekend.
