Cycling the Water Rail Way.

This was another day out to take photographs for my photography degree.  I was brought up in the small Lincolnshire Town of Woodhall Spa, 30 miles away from where I now live.  Woodhall grew up as an Edwardian Spa Town on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds.  The spa waters were discovered whilst prospecting for coal.  Woodhall was on the branch line to the nearby market town of Horncastle and close to Woodhall Junction at Kirkstead on the River Witham, a station on the Lincolnshire Loop Line from Lincoln to Boston and Peterborough.  In my boyhood it was possible to board a steam hauled train here and alight at Kings Cross.  We regularly used to travel to Lincoln on it and I also used to fish in the Witham.  Both of these lines were closed during the Beeching Cuts of the 1960s and the last train ran in 1971.  Both, however, have had a new lease of life as walking and cycling routes, the Lincoln.  For my degree I needed landscape images combined with old black and white photos of the stations to link with my boyhood memories.

A Walk at Donna Nook

I enjoyed a very pleasant walk at Donna Nook today to take photographs for my photography degree.  I was looking for landscape images and shots of found objects, both wide angle shots and macros.  I was also delighted to find bee orchids and large numbers of pyramidal orchids as well as a few painted lady butterflies, the first I have seen for a couple of years.  I also enjoyed the carpets of bird's foot trefoil or 'eggs and bacon'.
