A Misty Walk in Walesby Woodlands.

 We met up today for a misty walk in Walesby Woodlands.  A very pleasant walk, despite wintry conditions.  The ladies didn't walk so far and availed themselves of hot toddy back at the cars.

Walesby Woodlands

Writing now, in the middle of April, it is amazing to note how quickly Spring has progressed.  Looking back at photographs I took on a walk around Walesby Woodlands on 3rd March I can see that it was still very wintry looking with trees bare of leaves.  One of the earliest to come into leaf is the hedgerow hawthorn.  I remember my mother telling the story that during her childhood in the 1920/30s she used to eat the leaves and call them ‘bread and cheese’.  In Walesby woodlands we came across a couple of beech trees with a robust growth of horse’s hoof fungus.  I was intrigued because it is normally found on birch.  In days past it was processed and used as tinder and is still used by proponents of bushcraft today for the same purpose.

Not One, But Two Jet Walks

We had arranged to meet some friends for afternoon tea at Sunnyside Farm Teashop just outside Market Rasen today and decided to combine it with walking Jet.  However, we left it too late to get in a good walk first so gave Jet a quick run before tea and then a longer one afterwards in Walesby Woodlands.  The weather was delightful; warm and sunny enough for us to be able to enjoy tea outside.  What a difference  a week makes.  Only a few days previously Brian and I had been cycling in cold and freezing wintry showers.

Tea and Stickies at Sunnyside Farm, A Walk in Walesby Woodlands and Storm Clouds on the Way Home

Fancying a walk this afternoon, we parked at Sunnyside Farm and tea shop just outside Market Rasen.  Arranging to leave our car here, we set out for our usual walk with Jet around nearby Walesby Woodlands. On our return we enjoyed a pot of tea and some excellent Lincolnshire plum bread.  On the dive home there was a storm over the coast but the sun where we were, in the Wolds, lit up the clouds giving incredibly dramatic lighting.
