Amwell Wildlife Trust Reserve, South Herts

We were staying with Heather's brother and sister-in-law and they decided to take us to Amwell Wildlife Trust Reserve near Ware in South Herts. It is always exciting to visit a new location and this area of disused gravel pits and rivers was no exception. It is known for it's dragonflies so I was full of anticipation. There are one or two excellent hides and a specific dragonfly walk where I was over the moon to find Norfolk Hawkers. The challenge was photographing them, however, as they were continually on the wing. Eventually one perched for a brief spell and I managed to make some pleasing images. We were also delighted to find some banded demoiselle damselflies. An excellent day.
