Seville, November 2015

FRIDAY 6th NOVEMBER
Champing at the bit to be out, I left the support team pottering in the flat and went to explore the narrow, winding streets around Beth's flat, investigated the market and did some shopping.  Once I got back, Beth took us for coffee in Alameda.  We then wandered into town for a lunch of adobo  (fried fish) at a locals' bar near Las Setas.  Some more wandering was followed by some tapas and then I took myself off to Santa Cruz for some photography, while the ladies got down to some more serious shopping.  Eventually we met up in a bar near Las Setas before going back to the flat for a snooze.  For our evening meal Beth took us to a very pleasant tapas bar in Alameda, a vibrant area of Seville near the flat, the superb weather still being warm enough to sit outside in shirt sleeves.

Another excellent day.

Seville, November 2015

THURSDAY 5th  November
A frustrating drive down to Stansted this morning in dull misty conditions.  We decided to drive down cross country to Colsterworth, but it is a slow road and we were beset by slow traffic.  To make matters worse there were holdups on the A1 and M11 with traffic queuing to get off at Peterborough and the A14 for Harwich and Felixstowe.  However, we arrived at the airport nicely in time to have a coffee and browse the duty free before it was time  to board the plane.
The flight went quickly although there was total cloud cover until well over Spain.  The two national parks and lakes/reservoirs just before Seville looked interesting.

The bus journey into Seville was quick and straightforward and we were soon enjoying a beer and wine in San Eloy underneath one of the many heavily laden orange trees.  While waiting for Beth we enjoyed pottering around and taking night photos of Las Setas and the Giralda.  It was fantastic to meet up with Beth and head through the narrow winding streets to her small but very attractive flat for a meal of pasta and an early night.

Dog Walking in Twigmoor Woods

Following a visit to the opening of an exhibition at The Steel Rooms gallery in Brigg, we continued towards Scunthorpe to take Jet for a walk around Twigmoor Woods.  Yet again it was a quiet, still day with excellent reflections in the lake.  Despite it being a superb Autumn this year there are very few signs of fungi, either here or in any other of the wooded areas we have visited lately.  On our way home in the gathering dusk we disturbed a barn owl that I though was going to fly into the car.  I would have been devastated had it done; these birds are precious and an iconic part of the Lincolnshire landscape.

Over the last few afternoons and evenings it has been fascinating to watch the large skeins of geese that fly over the house, noisily keeping in touch with each other with their constant honking calls.
