Sunset at Walesby Ramblers' Church, Lincolnshire Wolds.

After a foggy and cloudy day, the skies began to clear in the late afternoon with some pleasing cloud formations developing.  After watching the Tour de France on ITV 4 (close to being a religion in the summer) the decision was made to head out to Walseby for some sunset photography.  It is a subject that I had long wanted to cover.  The journey didn't take long and we were soon parked up by the village hall and heading up the the sunken lane to the church perched high on the wold above the village.  Walesby has two churches: a fairly recent one in the village down in the valley and a largely disused one on the hillside known locally as The Ramblers' Church.  It is in an idyllic location perched high above the valley with nothing to interrupt the view to Lincoln.  It is still well maintained and used for occasional special services.  We were in position about half an hour before sunset and were able to capture a series of shots as it sank lower in the sky and finally below the horizon.  My hopes were fulfilled and there were some superb cloud formations which lit up beautifully.  A magical evening.

My favourite this one I think.

Playing here.

Just before the sun vanished.
