Lake District May. Day 1
A dull but dry start this morning and away at 11.30. The plan was to stop for lunch at Ferrybridge services but I took the wrong turn off the roundabout going into the services and finished up going up the old A1, still the Great North Road. It meant we went past Fairburn Ings RSPB reserve; haven't looked down on that for years. We were still back on track and on the A1. In the end we stopped for lunch at Wetherby services. We were soon on the way again and enjoying the wealth of cowslips on the roadside verges. The A66 went quickly although we drove through torrential showers and we were soon heading by the upper Lince on the way to cross the M6 and down into Kendal. There were bluebells everywhere and when we drove through Ratherheath Woods into the side the woodland floor was a sea of cobalt. It was a delight to be back at the caravan and were were soon set up. After a cup of tea we went for an obligatory walk up to our tree. Again blue bells were superb and the gorse was still in its prime. Views up into Kentmere were superb. Returning to the caravan it was beer o'clock and time to prepare spag bol for tea.
