Topping up the Feeders

Having set the feeding station at the beginning of the week, I now need to get out regularly to keep the feeders topped up so have made a couple of visits on Thursday and today.  It is amazing how quickly the usual protagonists find the food and even without being in the hide they were coming down to feed.  Actually the main reason the hide is needed is to stay warm(ish) and dry, although a few customers such as woodpecker and Jay are more cautious and, so, the hide is necessary.  As well as birds coming to the feeders a buzzard mewed and floated overhead, settling briefly in one of the large beeches behid the hide.  In front of the hide, at the top of a tall larch is a large flat nest with droppings on the edge.  Perhaps this is where the birds nested; I must watch next spring.  When leaving the hide one morning an unusual croaking alerted me to two black shapes over the wood; ravens.  Excellent.  I look forward to setting up for photography the next time I am out.
