An afternoon walk around the cemetery and woodland burial ground today with Nigel. It was slightly colder than of late at only 11C. Most of the birds we saw were the usual residents with good mixed flocks of tits with one or two small flocks of goldfinch with the odd sisking amongst them. We checked out the alders at the bottom corner of the cemetery hoping for siskin and redpoll feeding on the cones but to no avail. The bird of the day, though was the sparrowhawk that flew out of the plantation at our approach and then flew low around the corner out of sight. As usual there were large numbers of magpies and woodpigeon and a solitary pheasant on the adjacent stubble.
