Menorca, 2023. Day 1

Our much looked forward to trip to Menorca had arrived at last. We had packed the day before and, cat delivered to her holiday home, we set off for Peter and Linda's. The journey went well and we were soon relaxing over a delicious spag bol and a bottle of red before an early night ready for the next day.

We were up early and waiting for our taxi while it was still dark, marvelling at the superb view of Venus which looked huge. Although we were quickly through check in and security at Manchester airport, I found it somewhat stressfull and complicated with having to remove all the camera gear from my hand luggage to be checked and then going through a separate system as I now have a pacemaker to contend with. It was only once we were through that I remembered that I had left my tablet in my hold luggage. Fingers crossed it didn't over heat and set fire to the aircraft!!

As we finally took off we could see that there was a frost, our first of the year. As always, I enjoyed the flight especially views of Southampton Water and the Isle of Wight and, just before landing superb views of Ciutadella at the extreme west end of Menorca. Customs negociated, baggage collected and car picked up we were soon driving down the spine of the island towards our destination of Cala Galdana tucked into a sheltered cove on the the south west coast. Amzingly until the late 1950s/60s there were no buildings here at all and not even a road. Before descending into the village, Peter took us to a couple of view points (miradors) perched high above the bay.

Although quite large, our hotel was fabulous and the staff welcoming and friendly. Once upacked and settled in we were soon relaxing with our complimentary cava before our evening meal. The food was excellent: a wide choice of dishes many of which were Spanish meat, fish or paella. During the week I enjoyed swordfish, telapia and scorpion fish among many other delicacies. After our meal we had a stroll around the village before a night cap and bed.
