Another warm and sunny day today and time for another coastal walk; this time east from Cala Galdana to the next cove along: Cala Mitjana. Our route took us first along the beach and promenade and then up the steep set of steps up the cliff on the far side of the bay. Once out of the village we were once again in aleppo pinewoods through which the path meandered. On the way we visited a superb mirador giving beautiful views down into the bay. The beach is set deep in the cliffs which are riddled with caves. To one side of the path, as it winds its way down to the beach, is an old, disused quarry where we could clearly see where the blocks of limestone had been cut out of the cliff. Once camp had been established on the beach it was time for another sea swim. Again the water was clear and beautifully warm.
Back at the hotel Heather and I decided it was time to try out the restaurant on the small island at our end of the bay. The view from the terrace was magnificent and we enjoyed watching beach life and people snorkelling beneath us as we enjoyed our wine and garlic prawns. In the restaurant bar is a wall-sized photograph of the bay with no buildings to be seen at all. In fact until the 1960s there was nothing here, not even a road to the bay. After our relaxed lunch we had a wander around the village and then relaxed on our balcony watching, fascinated, as a procession of low loader lorries came and lifted boats out of the water to store for the winter.
