As on most mornings we were up early and, as we were moving into Autumn, before the sun was up. We were especilly pleased with view of the bay that our room afforded up and each morning we enjoyed beautiful sunrises.
The plan for the day was to walk west along the coast through beautiful Aleppo pine woods to explore the picturesque coves set into the cliffs. As we made our away up to the beginning of the coastal path, The Cami de Cavalls which encircles the island, we could look back at out hotel and were able to check that the towels we had left on our balcony were drying nicely. Climbing up the steep path away from the village there were expansive views back down to the bay with its crystal clear turquoise water. The woods were full of bird song and butteflies dazzled with their beauty. Although not the best time of year for flowers we delighted in the purples of merendera, similar to Autumn crocus, with their orange/yellow stamens which dotted the woodland floor and the occasional white narcissus and purple heaths.
After visiting one or two spectacular viewpoints we eventually climbed down steep wooden steps to the beach at Cala Macarella and then on to nearby Cala Macarelleta where we stopped for lunch and a swim. Climbing up from the beach we met up with Peter who had gone pottering and made our way via a circuitous route back to Cala Macarella where we called in at the bar for cafe con leche and ensaimada - delicious.
The final part of our walk didn't quite go according to plan as we were hit by another torrential storm. When we arrived back at Cala Galdana the road by the hotel had turned into a river. It was time to dry out and retire for our complementary spa treatment before dinner. Although it was a damp end it had been an excellent day.
