A Walk at Twyford Wood

We met up with brother and sister in law, Malcolm and Maureen for Sunday lunch at the south Lincolnshire Village of Swayfield.  After lunch we went for a walk around Twyford Wood.  Once a WWII airfield it was planted by the Forestry Commission and is also the home of two Butterfly Conservation reserves as both dingy and grizzled skippers can be found here.  It is a fascinating place as the runways still exist.  We enjoyed good views of both buzzard and red kite and chiffchaff and great spotted woodpecker were both to be heard.  It was satisfying to hear the first of our summer visitors again.  Colts foot, primrose and pussy willow were all well in flower.
