The Lakes, April 2016. Day 4 Silver How from Grasmere.

Another lazy morning this morning before heading off to Grasmere in glorious spring sunshine.  The plan was to walk up Silver How above the village, partly for the view and partly to tick off a Wainwright that I missed in March.  It was a steep but short walk up to the summit, which is perched high above Grasmere with wonderful views across to Helvellyn and Fairfield, Loughrigg and then over the Coniston and Langdale fells.  What a superb position.  We enjoyed watching two paragliders circling above us.  Although the sun was warm there was a bite to the air so it must have been bitter up where they were.  On our return to the village it was time for tea and stickies and a spot of grockling.  I enjoyed pottering in the wonderful bookshop before doing some food shopping for tea before heading back to the site and beer o’clock.  Thomas came to join us for tea, having returned from a week’s sea kayaking on the west coast of Scotland.  We enjoyed hearing his tales and looking at photographs of the trip while it rained and sleeted outside.  It would be snow on the tops!  By the time he left though the sky was crystal clear and we had a wonderful view of the space station tracking across the sky above us.
