Rain
continued to hammer on our window all night and we woke to it in the morning, but
we could have been in the tent so we didn’t mind!!! Packing the car went well despite the rain
and we enjoyed an excellent breakfast and settled our bill which was remarkably
reasonable. This is yet another Logis de
France which lives up to expectations.
Although both the sat nav and the hotel proprieter recommended heading
for Parish and getting on the motorway early we opted to head over to Evreux
and to Orleon and the motorway via Dreux and Chartres as this route held many
fond memories for us of holidays with the children. We were also curious to see if they had
finished the upgrades they were working on all those years ago. Much of it is now fast dual carriageway and much
of the single carriageway has gone. From
just north of Orleans the motorway was quiet, fast and delightful motoring. It was, however, expensive at €26.80, no
wonder lorries steer clear. After a
morning of rain, the weather continued to improve and by the time we reached
the Auvergne it was dry and nearly sunny.
Driving into Ebreuil was like coming home and to our surprise we were
remembered by the English owners. As
there had been a lot of rain we avoided our old pitch by the river and chose a
drier and potentially sunnier spot. The
tent went up well despite not having had it out for 3 years and we were soon
settled in and cooking pasta for tea. We
had called in at the supermarket in the village for essential supplies and beer
and wine were soon being opened. We were
warm and cosy in the tent and looking forward to our first night under canvas.
