France May/June 2016, Day 7 Breakfat and the Market in Ebreuil.

The days start well in Ebreuil, especially after the purchase of the airbeds!!  We lie snugly in the tent listening to golden orioles singing their flute-like song in the trees around the site.  Magical!!  This morning we were up and showered early to walk into Ebreuil for the maket and breakfast.  The short walk of half a mile or so is along a quiet lane and then the river Sioule.  We continue the flower hunting and are up to 42 species now, plus those we can’t remember.  Memo carry a notebook!!  The verge this morning was thick with woolly lamb mint and various species of cranesbill.  I enjoyed pottering around the narrow back lanes of this medieval village photographing the fading elegance of the buildings.  I love, especially, peeling paint on the shutters.  Breakfast in the sun in the tiny cafe opposite the Marie was excellent; they certainly know how to make great coffee.  The market was small but had everything: wonderful cheese, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, as well as clothes and shoe stalls.  I was especially fascinated by the knife sharpener who was happy to have his photograph taken at work on his ancient foot operated grindstone.  We bought cake from the baker’s to eat with coffee back at the site where I am now sitting in the shade of the quince tree outside our tent typing this blog and listening to green woodpeckers and golden oriole.  The only downside is that I have had to remove the first deer/sheep tick of the trip.  I will insist on delving into the undergrowth to photograph flowers.

This afternoon a trip to Charroux beckons; one of the ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France.
