Up early
this morning to an excellent breakfast on the boat to sustain us for a day’s
travelling. Our Journey went well and,
although the motorway was very busy until south of Boulogne, the remainder of
the drive went remarkably well with a coffee stop just south of Calais at Cap
Gris Nez with excellent views across the Channel to the White Cliffs of Dover
and our regular lunch stop at the Aire de la Baie de Somme. We noticed that the barley is much further on
here than at home and already drifts of dog daisies are in flower. We were aiming for Les Andelys on the Seine
close to Giverny as we intend to visit Monet’s Garden tomorrow. We are established in a fine Logis de France
and before our evening meal we walked down to the banks of the Seine and the
village of Petit Andelys with the Chateau towering above. It was pleasant and very warm so we treated
ourselves to a pre-prandial outside a very pleasant creperie, when suddenly we
heard thunder. Of course we had no coats
and when the heavens opened had to buy a very expensive brolly. Naturally on the way back the rain suddenly
dried up. Still the brolly was used!!!
