A relaxed
day for us as Peter and Linda spent the day packing and getting ready for their
trip north tomorrow and Thomas and James went out on their bikes. We enjoyed a very welcome lazy start and then
decided to drive up to Archianne. Over breakfast we all enjoyed watching Egyptian
vultures circling on the thermals above the site. We had been up to Archianne
three years ago and had walked the Cirque, but today enjoyed wandering round
the hamlet itself and photographing butterflies on the way up. I was pleased to see and photograph my first
silver studded blue and get some more black veined white shots. The first cafe we tried had shown no signs of
life three years ago, but we took that to be a sign of the freezing
weather. We tried again today and there
was definitely a male attend there eating some sort of meal, but all we
received was a blank look and a grunt.
Perhaps there is a shortage of surnames up here!! We did, however, locate the excellent Refuge
d’Archianne owned by an English speaking Frenchman with an Australian
accent. He was very chatty and friendly
and we enjoyed a very pleasant drink sitting on the balcony with views up to
cliffs surrounding the village. On the
way back to car we had excellent views of a fabulous male ring ouzel. Once back at the site we had a quiche and
salad lunch with james and Thomas and then we went, with Thomas up to a lovely
waterfall for some photography. Or
evening meal was in an excellent local restaurant by the river.
