On a beautifully sunny morning on the 9th saw us heading over the bridge to North Cave Wetlands. I had really enjoyed my visit here in January and looked forward to the day with anticipation. I was pleased to spot a sparrowhawk perched in the roadside hedge near Keelby on the way there and close by a red-legged partridge on the way home. Once parked up at North Cave we followed my route from January without the extension to look for the little owl as time was pressing (i.e. The Little Butty Van was about to close!!). It was mre spring-like today and, unlike January, the lakes were not frozen over. We were pleased to find the white-fronted goose at the start of our circuit on the Village Lake. As is often the case when looking at a new bird it persisted in sleeping, although the distinctive white wing bar could be seen. Eventually it briefly raised its head showing the white face which gives it its name. Another new bird for me was the common scoter seen from Crosslands Hide on the new workings. Although a definite identification through the 'scope it was much too far away for photography. Ruff and black-tailed godwit were also present on Dryham Ings. Yet again I clearly heard another cetti's but also, yet again, failed to see it.
