Return to Ashes Lane, Day 5. Birding in the Trough of Bowland.
Not quite such an early start as we would have hoped but eventually we were on our way to the Trough of Bowland. For a change we were driving through the Bowland landscape in bright, cheerful sunshine rather than the usual rain. Pulling up in the busy parking area for Langden Beck we were slightly concerned that the walk would be very busy. We needn't have worried, though, as most people seemed to be there for the excellent looking food van. Once walking up the valley we had it mostly to ourselves. The valley was beautiful but birds were somewhat thin on the ground. No ring ouzel, perhaps it is still a tad early for them. We did find a beautiful pair of stonechats and back at the entrance to the valley, tree pipits.
